Builder Designs presents the 2018 Bone Bender  Mountain Bike Challenge.  Back from the grave, a classic endurance mountain bike event returns to the Midwest with a new date (9/16/18), new format, new venue/course.   Thanks to Lyle Riedy and a cast of wonderful volunteers from Ladydudes, LMBC and Cow TownCycling our new home is Perry Lake State Park.  A great course and venue awaits everyone for this year’s event.

Event Start Times:
  • Full Course Race (45 Miles) 9:00 am
  • Full Course Tour (23 Miles)  9:01 am
  • XC Race (12 Miles)  9:15 am  
Cut-off Times:
  • Full course Race participants must begin lap 2 by 12:00 Noon.  

Course:  Perry Lake MTB Trails.  Perry was designed and built specifically for mountain bike enthusiast and is a perfect venue of the Bone Bender.  The trails has a very rocky tread, many hills, short steep sections with tight turns, off camber, fast and technical rocky sections.   Are you up for one our our challenges?  The full Bone Bender (45 miles), The Bone Bender Tour (22 miles), and the Bone Bender XC (12 miles).  Course map below:



Directions: From Lawrence, take US Highway 23 West to Perry, Turn North on Kansas Route 237 (West Lake Road).  Follow West Lake Road past the Perry State Park Office, across the bridge towards Rock Creek Marina.  Just past the marina and the bridge, take the first right.  Parking and trail head on the right at the end of the pavement.

Packet Pickup: Packets will be available at 7:30 am on race morning.  Location Perry Lake MTB Trail head.  This is also the start/finish of event.  

Parking: Parking is available at the event venue. 

Post Event:  Enjoy a wonder post race meal provided by Trails and Tacos.

2018 Meltdown Mountain Bike Challenge

Start list is posted: 2018 Meltdown Start List. We are offering registration on Sunday.  Please arrive early to allow time to register.  Raceday registration closes 30 minutes prior to start.

The WYCO trail system is known locally as "Singletrack Heaven".  Home to some of the best designed and maintained trails in the Midwest and it is easy to see why the 25+ miles (and growing) trails out at Wyandotte County Lake have earned that name.

SINGLE SPEED class added!!!!

The Meltdown races will feature events for all ages and abilities including junior classes starting as young as 10 all the way up to 60+ Masters classes and 50+ Female classes.   Never participated in a mountain bike race?  We have a class for you - Cat 3 (Beginner).  Long distance is your thing?  We have a class for you - 3 hour Marathon. Only have one gear?  Single Speed is your class.

How do I register?  

Registration is easy - Visit: USA Cycling - Meltdown MTB

Remember this event is protected by the Event Cancellation Refund Protection Program.  What does this mean?  If we cancel the event due to rain (muddy trails) you get a refund.  Now you have no excuses not to sign up.


You must have a USA Cycling license or purchase a one-day license $10.00.  (Note: USA Cycling is currently having a rebate program where $5.00 from each one-day license will be paid to the hosting club. All rebated funds will be donated to the Urban Trails Co for use at Wyco)  You will have to create an account if you do not already have one with USA Cycling.  This is very easy to do.  The one-day license will be added automatically when you "checkout" if you do not already have a license.

Schedule for Sunday, June 10th, 2018:

  • 7:30 AM Registration and Pack pickup
  • 8:00 AM Course opens for warmups
  • 8:30 AM Registration closes for 9 AM starts
  • 8:50 AM Riders meeting for 9 AM start 
  • 9:00 AM Start: Marathon, Cat 3 Males and Cat 3 Females, Master 50+ Females and Juniors.
  • 10:30 AM Registration closes for 11 AM starts
  • 10:50 AM Riders meeting for 11 AM start
  • 11:00 AM Start: Cat 1 Males, Cat 1 Females, Cat 2 Males, Cat 2 Females, Clydesdale's, Single Speed and Grand Masters 60+ Males
  • Awards for each race once finalized by USAC official. 
Awards:  Custom awards are finished.


Post Race Food:

Trails and Tacos will be onsite with their tasty tacos.  A $5.00 donation is suggested.
